God’s Dream for the Church
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Todd Braschler
We know that God has a dream for the church. Participants of Monday’s daylong workshop “Equipping the Church of God’s Dreams” discovered what that entails.
Scripture describes many details about the kind of church God intended. He promises a very powerful gift to the body of Christ when we are passionate about staying on track with the purpose and dream he initiated for the church: the extraordinary power of his Spirit. If you’ve ever been involved in ministry without the anointing of God, you know what a job ministry becomes; it’s powerless and unfulfilling, lacking the vitality of what should be in the body of Christ. Man’s effort combined with God’s anointing produces the church of his dreams.

“Why Do You Attend Camp Meeting?”
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Bill Ellis
Why do people come every year from all over the United States and many foreign countries to this great meeting? My first trip was to learn more about the Church of God and get a glimpse of the college I was to attend that fall. Recently, I have been asking a lot of people why they first came and why they continue to come.
Our daughter Liz simply said, “We had to go because you and mom never missed it. I liked it because I got to see a lot of friends, hear great music, and meet people I would spend four years with at Anderson University.”

Forming Multiethnic Congregations
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By MaryAnn Hawkins
Monday morning found Anderson University School of Theology professors Dr. James Lewis and Dr. MaryAnn Hawkins with a group of pastors and laity from across the country discussing the why, the what, and the how of multiethnic ministry.
The why was established from Scripture in an understanding of the missio dei, God’s mission, as God seeking relationship with all people, from the call of Abraham to be a blessing to the nations (Gen 12:1–3) to the apocalyptic vision of John the Revelator of “every tribe and nation, and language and people” (Rev 5:9; 7:9).

National Association of Evangelism Honors Heroes
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Connie Cissna
When I was in college, Dr. Kenneth Jones surprised the editor of a local newspaper when he said, “The report of my death has been greatly exaggerated!” Dr. Jones was more right then he knew. On earth, the Christ’s church may loose warriors in the battle, but their legacy lives on far beyond death. The Bible tells us that one of the gifts a Christian leaves to the next generation is a strong foundation for Christ. When God wanted to punish a wicked king in the Old Testament, he would blot out their name forever, as though they had never existed. If a leader stood strong for God, their legacy was a blessing for all future generations. Thus are the remembrances of the great heroes of the faith honored this year in the national meeting of the National Association of Evangelism (NAE).

The Art of Effective Communication
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Susan Kane
In today’s society we utilize every modern convenience to convey our message to those around us. Telephone calls, e-mails, text messages, and the written word all allow us to share our thoughts and ideas with others. However, despite the plethora of communication tools at our fingertips, it is estimated that 70 percent of people reach the end of a speech or sermon and have no idea what the speaker was trying to tell them. Truly effective communication skills are becoming a lost art, a thing of the past.

AU Receives Grant for Online Gospel Trumpet
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General, Colleges and Universities
|
By Joseph D. Allison
Anderson University has received a federal grant that will enable it to complete a searchable electronic version of the first thirty years of the Gospel Trumpet (1881–1910). Dr. Janet Brewer, AU director of libraries, says that the university expects to make the digital Gospel Trumpet available at next year’s North American Convention.
The Gospel Trumpet was the first major periodical of the Church of God. God used it to reach thousands of people with the gospel message. These people then formed Church of God congregations around the world.

Boggs, Soffera, and McNeese bring the Word to life
By Kathy Henderson
Sitting in the back row of Miller Chapel Monday afternoon, I did not realize how thirsty I was until Tamara Boggs gave me a drink of living water. She came from the back of the room, calling us to come and see: “I met a man who told me everything I’ve ever done.” She spoke to us, to me. I was compelled to listen. On the edge of my seat with hope, I heard an invitation in the voice of one who had nothing to lose, the voice of the woman at the well. Tamara became the woman, and so did I.

Heritage Hymn Sing Moves to Monday
Church of God Ministries, Church of God - General
|
By Robert A. Nicholson
The 2008 Heritage Hymn Sing-a-Long has been shifted to Monday evening, recognizing the importance of this year’s unique Sunday evening service. So, it will be held on Monday evening, at 9:15 pm, in Reardon Auditorium.
These Heritage Sings were begun in 2000 by Paul Yerden and Robert Nicholson to give opportunity to sing the great songs that have lifted and inspired the Church of God movement from its early days. Dean Schield has now joined us in leadership. The Sing packed out two earlier locations (Byrum Hall and Park Place Church), so we now enjoy the spaciousness and good facilities of Reardon Auditorium.

Attendees enjoy Southern Gospel Concert
By Cara Miller
People streamed into the Kardatzke Wellness Center on Sunday afternoon to escape the humidity and enjoy the soothing music of the Southern Gospel Concert. The crowd was clapping and swaying to the rhythm as performers lifted their voices to the Lord.
The ninety-minute program included musical selections from three groups, starting with the Alive Quartet, who have been performing together for twelve years and return every year to the North American Convention. These four Anderson University alumni sang a number of songs, including “Happy Rhythm in My Soul,” “Road of Glory,” “Oh, What a Time” and “This Old House.”
