Now you can sing hymns with piano accompaniment even if you don’t have a pianist. Warner Press, Inc., has produced a set of three audio CDs of piano accompaniment for the Church of God heritage songs published in the 2006 book Camp Meeting Favorites.
Camp Meeting Favorites contains seventy-five songs written during the first generation of the Church of God. Most of them no longer appear in the church’s hymnal. For this reason, some congregations use the ninety-six-page songbook to supplement their worship resources.
“Some of our congregations do not have a regular accompanist to play for their worship services, so they asked us to produce the accompaniment CDs,” said Joe Allison, CGM coordinator of Publishing and Creative Services. “We hope the accompaniment CDs will be a helpful tool to enrich the worship experience.”
The songs are performed by Joseph E. Gregory, minister of music at First Church of God in Vincennes, Indiana, who also compiled the book. “They feature the piano being played in a simple style, at a fairly slow tempo that allows worshipers to ponder the words they are singing.” Allison said. “The CDs could also be used for an individual’s devotional time.”
Last year, Warner Press issued a CD-ROM with song lyrics in PowerPoint format, which can be projected on a screen during a worship service. The new accompaniment CDs make a complete set of resources for congregational worship using the heritage hymns.
The three-disc set is available for purchase through Warner Press. It will normally retail for $39.95, but a 30 percent discount (sale price $27.97) is in effect until June 30. Call Warner Press toll-free at 800-741-7721.
