Conference Series Focuses on Women in Ministry

 Women and men are being energized and challenged as a result of the “Women Designed by God” conference series currently in progress. Earlier in the week, Laura Shallenberger, national president of Women of the Church of God, led a session titled “Women Designed by God to Influence for Good,” and on Monday, a preaching forum was offered, featuring Saundra McNeese, south central regional director for Women of the Church of God; Tamara Boggs, author; and Marlene Soffera, pastor.
“Women Designed by God to Lead” was presented by Deanna Corbett, ministry coordinator for Women of the Church of God, on Tuesday, June 24, at Park Place Church of God. (Cynthia Thomas, president of the National Association of Women was originally scheduled to lead this session but was unable to be here.) The Newberry Room was full as individuals gathered to share ideas and receive insight into the challenge of what it means to be a woman in leadership.
Deanna Corbett, who entered national leadership from a pastorate in Albuquerque, New Mexico, invited women to share their stories of calling and struggle, and to encourage one another with wisdom. Corbett presented leadership as a journey, as a way along which God provides direction and insight, developing women into maturity in him.
This series ends on Wednesday with the annual assembly of Women of the Church of God, led by Laura Shallenberger and Arnetta McNeese Bailey, executive director of Women of the Church of God, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in Miller Chapel at the School of Theology.
