NAC provides chaplains with venue for connection and unity
By David Farlow
A grateful crowd recognized the military chaplains during the evening service on Monday. The six military chaplains present heard words of thanks and gratitude for their service and sacrifice in the ministry to our Lord by serving those who wear the uniform of their country. The Church of God currently endorses twenty-one U.S. military chaplains.
From all over the world, these chaplains came to the convention to maintain the connection. “It is vital for chaplains to attend the North American Convention for two main reasons, said Col. Tim Willoughby, chaplain for the army’s special operations command in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. “First, it keeps the chaplain connected to the church, and secondly, it keeps the church connected to the chaplain.”
The chaplains also gathered together for their annual meeting on Wednesday afternoon, where they were welcomed by Dr. Ronald V. Duncan, general director of Church of God Ministries, who is a retired army reserve chaplain. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of unity within the church.
In response, Col. Willoughby said, “Church of God chaplains should come to the NAC in order to foster that sense of ‘unity of purpose.’ Military chaplains have the same goals as the rest of the church. Being together at NAC encourages a recognition of this unity and actually provides a time and place for the interaction that helps the unity to take place.”
