The Church of God Foundation welcomes Dr. Jay A. Barber, Jr., president emeritus of Warner Pacific College as the newest member of the Foundation’s team. Capitalizing on his unique relationship across the movement and tremendous expertise in the area of gift planning, Barber will join the Foundation as senior consultant for stewardship services.
“Jay Barber has been a prominent leader within the life of the church, and we are truly blessed to have a person of his caliber join our team,” said Dr Ronald V. Duncan, president of the Foundation Board and general director of Church of God Ministries. “We will rely heavily on his vast experience, expert counsel, and spiritual leadership as we seek to serve the church through the stewardship services provided by the Foundation.”
In this new position, Barber will be a principal advisor to the Foundation’s Board and will assist with the development of strategic plans, policies, and programs. He will also provide specialized training for the Foundation’s gift planning advisors. Additionally, Barber will represent the Foundation at special events and help to foster partnership opportunities with Church of God congregations, among other duties.
Barber earned his bachelor’s degree from Warner Pacific College and later served on the Board of Trustees. He received his master’s degree from the University of San Francisco and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Anderson University. Barber also served as senior pastor of First Church of God in Red Bluff, California, for sixteen years; during those years, he also served two terms as the mayor.
Prior to serving as the president of Warner Pacific College, Barber served as the director of the Oregon Health Sciences University Foundation, overseeing fundraising programs for the Foundation, including its three schools and a number of research programs.
Barber and his wife Jan are members of Mt. Scott Church of God in Portland, Oregon.
“Just reviewing his bio speaks to the tremendous resource we are gaining with Jay Barber joining the Foundation,” said Jeff Jenness, Foundation vice president. “I can only begin to imagine the powerful impact he will have within the Foundation and our efforts to serve the church and serve our Lord.”
“It is an honor to be a part of the Church of God Foundation,” said Barber. “It is my hope that I can assist individuals and congregations in using the services provided by the Foundation to leave a lasting legacy for the ministries of the church.”
