Erin Taylor: NAC 2012 Saturday Evening Speaker

June 15, 2012

By Carl Stagner

Erin Taylor is a product of the Church of God. As a pastor’s kid and graduate of Anderson University and the AU School of Theology, she not only has a heart for ministry but also a love for the church. Her call to ministry was affirmed at the International Youth Convention when she was just fifteen, and now she serves as pastor of Christian education at The Church at the Crossing in Indianapolis. She has a remarkable passion for teaching the Word of God and helping the body of Christ apply it to daily life. On Saturday at 7:00 PM, she will take that same passion onto the platform in Reardon Auditorium as she delivers the evening message.

She may be a young leader in the Church of God, but she believes in the history, mission, and theology of the reformation movement. As you listen to her speak, you’ll no doubt recognize her enthusiasm for spreading the message of the Church of God that “our world needs to hear.” She hopes to convey the truth and importance of refreshing our relationship with our Creator. “As churches clarify their mission and choose unity with other congregations,” Taylor explains, “we may be able to gain traction around a common purpose. I believe that in order to do this, we must repent for the ways that we have lost our mission and ask for the Spirit to move afresh among us.” When God moves afresh and refreshes the church, he connects the body of Christ together in beautiful unity. “I long for us to be brought together because of our common vision and mission,” she says. Taylor hopes to underscore that the church can be refreshed by remembering the faithfulness of God. “The same God who breathed life into the human form at creation breathes life into us today,” she says.

NAC has been an important part of Taylor’s life too. “I remember loving Kid’s Place when I was in elementary school and then volunteering there for several years during high school and college. I also remember how my grandparents brought their fifth wheel camper every year. And so many memories of sitting in the dome for evening services…” For those still not sure whether they should make the trek to Anderson for NAC, Taylor offers some encouragement. “NAC is a wonderful time to connect with others, worship the Lord together, and celebrate the ways that the Lord is at work among us.”

Just as her parents Bob and Renee Moss passed their faith on to their daughter, so Erin is engaged in passing the faith along to her family and to others through teaching and example. And she offers some encouragement to those who have paved the way for the next generation of leaders. “There is a generation of young leaders who care deeply about the future of the Church of God. It seems to me that older generations are often discouraged about the lack of young leaders who want to join the ranks of ministry and leadership. The truth is that there are many called, equipped, and capable leaders who want to lead. There is hope for the future, but it requires ministers and leaders of all ages to engage together in renewing our mission and vision.”
