Strategic Planning Conference

2011 Strategic Planning Conference: Voices Unite to
Renew the Vision for the Church

In Nashville, Tennessee, September 13–15, 2011, 132 leaders of the Church of God gathered to shape the vision for the work of the church at large for the coming years. Held once every five years, this conference is an assembly of diverse and committed leaders, consisting of senior pastors, associate pastors, regional pastors and overseers, and emerging church leaders, as well as members of the Ministries Council and Church of God Ministries staff. Over the three days of plenary sessions and small group dialogue, the leaders were charged with building on the current vision for the church and the Five Strategic Values of Ignite, Permeate, Free, Cultivate, and Refresh. Three important guiding principles aided the participants in their task: the necessity of hearing every voice, affirming common and complementary themes, and the need for dialogue that is grounded in prayer. In order to move forward, together, as the body of Christ, Church of God leadership is committed to clearly and dynamically communicating the vision and mission for the movement. To that end, the key themes, ideas, outcomes, and next steps from the 2011 Strategic Planning Conference are shared here, as viewed by the presenters and the participants.
