2008 International Forum for Pastoral Workers

 In October, at the International Forum for Pastoral Workers in Argentina, Mario Hort presented a workshop titled “The Uses and Abuses of Christian Radio.” We invited Mario, a seventeen-year veteran of CBH Radio-Portuguese, to do this because so many preachers in Latin America exploit the mass media to broadcast messages that, shall we say, contradict much of what Jesus teaches in the New Testament.
Interestingly, this was the first time Mario had ever spoken to his colleagues on this topic that is near and dear to his heart. He was so excited by his Forum experience that he repeated the workshop in morning worship at his church in Rondon, Brazil, the next Sunday. Mario later e-mailed the following report:
“I invited the captains of the (three city) police forces, five local churches, the owners of the four radio stations, and the largest newspaper in town. Today, a report on my defense of the healthy use of Christian radio came out in the paper—almost a whole page! Thank you for inviting me to prepare this message.”
It takes a lot of work to plan and conduct these Forums, which we hope will stimulate and renew pastors, evangelists, and teachers. When we get feedback like this, we know that the work is worth it.
