Highs and Lows in Paraguay

The Lord’s work has its highs and lows, as we all have experienced. When Marcos and Cristiane Kurrle moved to Asunción, Paraguay, last year in answer to God’s call to begin an inner-city youth center, they had only a vague idea of what lay in store. Their dream unexpectedly took flight, however, when a Christian businessman offered them use of an office building strategically located in the city center. Soon they were hosting scores of Asunción’s youth for rec-and-rap sessions, leading some to the Lord, discipling others in their walk with Christ.

In a recent e-mail to friends and supporters, Marcos Kurrle relates what happened next:

“We are very happy because on Saturday, 3 November, we celebrated one year of Planeta Joven (Planet Youth) with a little over two hundred young people. It was a great victory for us, and we thank the Lord for helping us in so many ways. We are already praying for a new and bigger place, praise the Lord!

“We also need your prayers and support because the day before the anniversary of Planeta Joven, they stole our truck. Its was a big shock for us, but we know the Lord will help us. That happened on Friday night, and on Sunday morning somebody called me to say that he found my car, but he wants money. He told me that I should not call the police. ‘Your lives are more value than the car,’ he said.

“I said that I just have $650, my salary. He told me that was OK. But they lied to me. I deposited the money and they did not give me my car. So I was doubly robbed.

“It is a little difficult time we are going through, but we trust in the Lord. We know that the devil is not happy with us, because we are helping many young people and he wants to discourage us. But we know the Lord is with us. Thanks for praying. Please come visit us some day so that you can see what the Lord is doing here in Paraguay.”

Since receiving this e-mail, we have learned that the local crime gang that stole the Kurrles’ truck has been phoning the house threatening the family. Please keep them in your prayers. God knows how to turn lows to highs. Let’s believe him to do it in Asunción.
