Sometimes we help others who are helping others. In doing so, the need can be met, but there are other benefits. Partnerships can develop, ministry can be expanded, and relational connectivity can be fostered. Recently, Church of God Ministries (CGM) extended a helping hand to help those who help others.
Representing Church of God Ministries, Rev. Obadiah Smith, Jr., director of compassionate ministries, provided Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana with a check for $1,000 during their kick-off fund-raising campaign.
During the presentation Smith said, “Church of God Ministries is compelled to be here through our desire for service and relational connectivity. Not only are we helping to meet the need of the hungry, but we are developing a relationship with a service organization in our own back yard.”
Smith explained the decision behind CGM’s contribution to Second Harvest: “We are guided by our vision and mission statement to transform the culture by being the body of Christ. One way we do this is by demonstrating our love for God through compassionately loving and sacrificially serving others. In this particular situation, we wanted to help a worthy partnering organization to meet the very basic need of feeding the hungry.”
Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana is a major food distribution center serving 125 charitable pantries and meal programs serving 49,000 low income families in eight counties in Central Indiana. They distribute four to five million pounds of food annually, meeting the need of the hungry. |
